Working with Synonode
Research and documents
Research with linked sources, office documents Synonode writes and reads, and searching inside the files you give it.
Web search
When a question needs facts, specs or prices it doesn't know, Synonode searches the web and reads the pages. It finds licensed photos when a project needs pictures, and credits them. Turn web access off in Settings → Privacy and it works only from what's on your computer.
Research mode
For a real research question, turn on Research in the + menu of the message box (or type /research followed by your question). Synonode then:
- Scopes the question
It decides what a good answer needs: a recommendation, a comparison, a timeline. It asks one short question only when your request could mean two different things.
- Sends agents out
Several agents search and read many sources, each on its own part of the question. The agents' reading stays out of your conversation and only their reports come back. Synonode can still search or read a page itself when that is quicker; after a couple of pages it is reminded that agents are there.
- Checks the claims
It compares what the sources say and notes where they disagree.
- Writes the report
Every claim links to where it came from. Ask for a Word or PDF file and you get one to download.
Research takes minutes, not seconds, because it reads many pages. You can keep working in another project meanwhile, and a notification tells you when it's done.
Office documents
Synonode writes and changes real office files, and opens them in the preview with a download:
| File | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Word (.docx) | Reports, letters, CVs and forms, with headings, tables and pictures. It can also change a document you give it. |
| Excel (.xlsx) | Tables with working formulas and charts. It can analyse a workbook you give it. |
| PowerPoint (.pptx) | Slide decks, from an outline or your notes. |
| Read, fill, merge, split and make PDF files. |
It also makes dashboards from your data (numbers, charts and tables on one page, refreshed with one click) and short animations that play like a video. Each of these is a built-in skill; you can call one directly with a slash, like /xlsx.
Jupyter notebooks
Keep a notebook (.ipynb) in the project and Synonode reads it cell by cell, the code or text of each with its outputs as text: printed results, tables and errors, and a note where a chart was drawn. It changes a notebook one cell at a time, replacing, adding or deleting a cell, and leaves the rest of the file as Jupyter wrote it. A code cell it rewrites loses its old outputs, so run the notebook again to see the new ones.
Search inside your documents
Attach PDFs, Word, Excel or PowerPoint files, or keep them in the project, and ask about them. Synonode searches inside them for the passages that matter instead of reading every page: what does the contract say about late payment? The text it pulls out is kept with the project, so the next search is instant.
